REDUCING CARBON FOOTPRINT

Truly, I have heard about the carbon footprint, but I never acknowledged what it was. According to my research on Google, I have found that the carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, that are generated by our actions. The actions, for instance, are driving a car that burns gasoline to keep it going. Another example is burning coal or oil to heat a house and generate electricity, but these two actions are not commonly used anymore because we live in an era where technology has given us more efficient ways to generate electricity and heat at home.

We must understand this situation so that we can take action to reduce the impact of our consumption on the environment. There are several ways to reduce your carbon footprint:
  • We need to limit meat consumption. The animals like cows, goats, and sheep likely emit methane, which is one of the gases that cause greenhouse gases, as they digest grasses and plants.
  • Use a reusable bag for shopping and avoid purchasing products with expensive packaging. There are many reusable or eco-friendly bags created from jute or kenaf.
  • Use public transportation. This action is the most popular way to follow, especially for people who live in cities. They had more facilities and public transportation options compared to a rural site.
  • Being considered when using water. We tend to be careless when spending water, especially during showers and brushing our teeth. You can help reduce water waste by taking a short shower and turning off the water while brushing your teeth.
To summarize, I want to mention the Kyoto Protocol, which is related to this topic. This protocol objectively focuses on reducing global warming by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. This effort shows that the world takes its carbon footprint seriously. We should take part in reducing the carbon footprint by slowly engaging in more sustainable development missions.
